When you are visiting the Dominican Republic, you must visit Santo Domingo. Take your camera and the sunscreen, with the beautiful beaches and awesome views you will be needing lots of both! There are fun things for families, singles and even honeymooners.  Take in the history, the water and the nightlife.
For the outdoor set there is many water related activities. Relax on the beach with a drink. Go snorkeling, scuba diving or kayaking. There is even an underwater national park for the scuba divers! You can see sunken ships and statuary. If you would like a closer view of native plants you definitely must visit the National Botanical Garden.
Dining in Santo Domingo is a grand experience. There is a variety of cuisines and prices…ranging from fast food to sit down “fine dining.” You will have to sample Dominican food, of course, while you are there. However, there are TONS of different dining options available. You will find Caribbean, American and even a vegetarian restaurant! For the adults in the group the nightlife is awesome. There is even a club in a cave, called Guacera Tiana! Reviews of the club are positive and the unique location is something you probably never experience again!
For those of you looking to absorb the culture and history of Santo Domingo, there are plenty of options. You can tour lighthouses, see national monuments and more. For the chocolate lovers, there is even a chocolate museum called Choco Museo Santo Domingo. You can sample the chocolate and see how the chocolate is made. With free admission, this is a place you must not miss during your visit!
